Deepnote: Funky Jupyter notebooks in the cloud (and great with Anvil!)

Have you seen Deepnote? Seriously impressive - it’s an online Jupyter-style notebook, but with Google Docs-style collaboration and a much slicker interface!

What’s more, they keep your notebooks running in the cloud continuously (even on their free plan!) - which means you can use a Deepnote notebook as the back end of an Anvil app!

So of course, I had to make a walkthrough:

This is so unbelievably cool.

Since this was so popular, @ryan and I wrote it up as a tutorial as well! Here’s the link:

And if you want to follow me on DEV.to, I’ve posted it there too:

I was in the beta for Deepnote and used it for about a year. My students and I really like it but it just didn’t replace our local JupyterLab environments.

Massive improvements to their system over the year and I would consider it ready for production use. It really came down to the UI and keyboard shortcuts for us.

Perhaps I’ll make a tutorial using my preferred cloud notebook provider, PaperSpace.
