AI Model Request/Comparison Thread

There’s been a rash of new AI models released lately, especially some remarkably capable open-weights ones, and we’ve been receiving a few requests to support these new providers. So here’s a thread to keep track of them – post your requests here!

Our current position: We want to make sure that our “Build with AI” tab will give new users a good experience out-of-the-box. We know some of you are heavy-AI-using Anvil experts who aren’t afraid to drag their models out of a non-Anvillic hole in exchange for being to run 5x the sessions for the same budget - that’s a great place to be, but offering that to new users would be a disservice.

You can, of course, always use whatever models you want by using the Anvil CLI to connect a local model harness to your Anvil apps. (If you have a particular new model you’d like us to support, “I use it in the Anvil CLI and it’s rock solid” would be pretty good evidence we should take a look!)

Bring on the requests, discussion, and fierce partisan advocacy of your favourite models…

This is great. Out of the box, I’ll just mention that it would be awesome to use Cursor (and its associated models like Grok 4.5 / Composer 2.5) directly in Anvil (though I believe this is more a Cursor limitation than an Anvil thing).

I use the anvil CLI on cursor all day every day, which is fantastic for the backend stuff. The only place it lacks is the UI tweaks. It’s not bad, but having played with Claude’s direct integration in Anvil it doesn’t quite deliver the same crisp UIs.

I’ve linked it to the anvil repo with the agent references and all those fancy things, which made a huge difference in general.

@meredydd personally, I’d love some tutorials. I say this because I’d love to see how you guys are using AI to build within Anvil. Also… just to keep up, because I’m seeing a flood of video tutorials for almost every other way to make an app. I think it’s the new standard now.

I’m not saying this as pressure. I’m just saying this because I am thirsty, truly thirsty, for how to integrate AI with Anvil. Seeing how the pros do it would go an extremely long way to not just inspire future coding but guide us so that we can avoid the mistakes that beginners might make when integrating AI with Anvil.
