Plans for supporting Anvil on iPad

Any plans on supporting Anvil on an iPad? Currently it seems that I am at least unable to drag and drop elements to the canvas.

Hi Mikael,

Welcome to the forum! Right now we don’t have many people wanting to use iPads, so it’s not an officially supported platform. I agree with you, though, that it would be really interesting to provide the power of Anvil on a tablet. I expect that we’d jump at the chance if it were a requirement for enough users. (It’s certainly something we could build for a business with the right support plan.)

(I’ve moved this post to the Feature Requests section. We keep an eye on the number of people who have clicked “Like” on posts like this, or otherwise expressed agreement, to see how popular a particular request is.)

When you both talk about Ipad support are you talking about just canvas ? or it being an app or?
What exactly is not supported on ipad?
I though everything you have on your designer is supported in safari?, is it not?

Thanks

I guess what we are mainly talking about is that the current editor assumes you are using it with a mouse, so touch-based devices like tablets are not supported.

This then excludes a growing group of ”light-weight” coders* and - maybe more importantly - schools that often only use iPads these days.

(* As evidence, I point to the popularity of environments like Pythonista on iOS.)

@mikael.honkala is correct - Anvil apps should run fine on iPad, but you open the Anvil IDE on an iPad at your own risk. This is something we’d love to improve, but it’s the kind of big project for which we’d probably need a more compelling motivation if we were to prioritise it over other ways of improving Anvil for our customers…
