Maintenance window: Sunday 9th February

Hi everyone,

This Sunday we need to do some maintenance that will interrupt access to your Anvil applications and to the Anvil editor for a few minutes. This will start at around 0830 UTC on Sunday the 9th Feb (that’s 0330 US Eastern time).

Apologies for the inconvenience - we’ll keep the downtime as short as we can, and we’ll update this thread to let you know when everything is back to normal afterwards.

Note: This interruption will affect all customers on cloud-hosted plans accessed through anvil.works, including those with Extra Server Resources (the old Dedicated Plan). Enterprise customers will not be affected.

This work is starting now. We will post further updates here, as promised.

Haha, I happened to be working and thought you guys were hacked. I didn’t see the announcement from 3 days ago.

Thanks for the update! I needed a break anyways!

Well, looks like switching to “Documentation mode”. :rofl:
Thank you for forcing me into this underrated but important job.

@daviesian

I have to say…my Anvil app, seems to be loading a lot faster and feels really snappy or am I imagining this?

Any hint as to what you improved?

We upgraded a core Anvil database from Postgres 15 to Postgres 17. It’s entirely possible that this will improve performance on its own, but it’s also possible that the load just hasn’t fully returned yet on this fairly quiet Sunday morning!

The improvements to logical replication that arrived in Postgres 16 are going to enable some pretty exciting new features in Anvil, as well as help us reduce (or even eliminate) downtime for future major version upgrades. Watch this space!
