Does Anvil generate SSL Certs for one's Custom Domain?

Dear Friends:

I read through the forums but couldn’t tell for sure what the answer was.

Following this procedure, I setup my App’s custom domain, which actually sits atop a sub-domain of a domain that I own:

(I’ve setup domains and subdomains many times, so I’m familiar with the process).

After configuring the A Record as directed (and everything resolved perfectly in DNS), I next generated an SSL Certificate (via the Let’s Encrypt wizard that my host-provider offers) for that sub-domain. NOTE: That wasn’t strictly necessary since I already have a wildcard SSL Certificate for the main domain.

Anyway, I’m getting the Site Not Secure – SSL Certificate Not Valid warning.

Did I miss a step? Or do I need Anvil Works to generate the SSL certificate?

Thank you (with apologies because I’m sure this is a well traveled question).

You usually get the warning for a few minutes/hours after assigning a new subdomain.

Just wait some time and it should work.

@stefano.menci Thank you. I noticed that this morning when performed the same procedure with a different sub-domain. Then I changed my mind and change the sub-domain name. This time the warning seems not to be disappearing.

I’ll wait until tomorrow. Bummer, LoL, I wanted to show a prototype, but it’s not the end of the world. We’ll see what tomorrow brings. Thank you again.

Who generates the needed SSL certificates? If I’m expected to, I can check if I did something wrong. If Anvil does, that there’s nothing I have to do. Thank you.

I never have worked on that certificates. It just works.

Anvil generates those, just wait.

Thank you. They contacted me that there was an issue, which they fixed.

How longe does this usually take? It’s been over 12 hours…

I am receiving the same issue even after 24 hours. Same results on multiple browsers and on my iPhone browser. How can I fix this?

Per the docs, and due to how our custom domain provisioning works, “up to 48 hours”.

If it’s been longer than that and the domain isn’t provisioned, drop a line to support@anvil.works!

Thanks. I thought it was 24 hours when I posted. I received an email this morning say, “The domain you requested is now configured and ready for use with your Anvil app”, and it was. There was a second domain I set up also, and that was completed much quicker with an email response also.

It would be great if the docs said you will receive an email when it is configured, I think that would alleviate this question in the future, at least it would have for me.
