A previously working custom domain URL is now throwing 'Unhandled runtime error' but anvil.app URL is working

** Update - This was to do with SSL certificates, Anvil support sorted out the issue promptly**

Hi

I’ve encountered a new error this morning and I’m wondering if anyone has seen this before. I’ve been using anvil for a while now and not seen this.

Bacially, when I access my app via the custom URL (which I have been using successfully for several months), it does not load any more, and shows the Anvil error ‘unhanded runtime error’. No additional information is provided in the app logs.

However, when I go to the app via its ‘anvil.app’ URL, it works fine.

The custom URL is going to Anvil, so the DNS is working (otherwise I wouldn’t see an Anvil error), and the anvil.app URL is working so all the code is good, something else is going on.

My app users need to visit the app using the custom URL so it needs to work for that one. I run about 10 apps with anvil and the problem is happening for 2 of them.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Richard

Update to this:

I’ve figured out that the problem is related to an SSL certificate expiry.

I discovered this by trying to load the app via Firefox, which provided a warning message.

What did you do to solve this? I am experiencing now

Hi all - Just to confirm, this problem was resolved by email (and is now resolved for all users).

(The cause was a failing Let’s Encrypt renewal, exacerbated by rate limits that prevented us from recovering with one keystroke – but we’re all back now!)

Hi,

I got the same error on my apps now… Unhandled runtime error

@benjaminvdz If I were you I would start a new thread explaining the problem in detail. Whilst your symptoms might be similar, the reason might well be different.

Closed to avoid necroposts as the thread is old and solved.
